The Moving On Ceremony meeting this past Thursday was a great success!

Thank you to the parents who attended. We had a great turnout.  And we appreciate the many parents who offered their time and talents to help out!  We will follow up with reminders and additional information.

Moving On Ceremony Meeting: Thursday, April 12 7:00pm

Attention 2nd and 3rd level parents.  This important meeting is for you to find out about the Moving – On Ceremony for our 3rd level children. We will be looking for volunteers to help with such things as food donations, flowers, setting up the kid’s work, programs, memory book and/or monetary donations to help with these items!  We hope that ALL 2nd and 3rd level parents can attend.  We need many volunteers to put together this wonderful ceremony for our kids and school.

If you did not sign up for our first spring conference, you may sign up now for our april 13th second spring conference.

We encourage you observe in your child’s classroom  before your conference.

Please contact Laura to schedule your observation.  If you have children in Mrs. Kim’s and Mrs. Michele’s you may schedule your parent conference with Laura as well. Our remaining teachers will send you a time for your parent conference.

Please join us this Saturday, March 24, 9:00 a.m. 

It is time for our parent workday. Please join us and help us clean up the grounds and work on the building—cleaning windows, etc..  We will  start @ 9 am and are usually finished by  noon.  Bring the family and help us make the grounds and building look great!  Also, it is a great time to complete your volunteer hours and double or triple your hours for each family member that joins you.

Daylight Savings Time…
Another sign that spring is on the way! Daylight savings Time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 11th. Don’t forget to “Spring Forward” and set your clock ahead by one hour.

Dr. Steve Hughes, PhD, LP, ABPdN and a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist, lectured to an audience of educators at the University of Texas at Dallas Monday March 5th, 2012.

According to the Montessori Institute of Texas, “Hughes will explore challenges currently faced by educators and consider some promising approaches, backed by neuroscience, that are setting the stage for a 21st century model of education; for School 2.0.  Educators, parents and child advocates will appreciate his ability to share scientific evidence in a clear and engaging manner.”

Hughes also appeared on NPR’s ‘Think,’ where he discussed School 2.0, as well as East Dallas Community Schools, in depth.

From NPR: “How can educators better prepare children for the changing workforce of the 21st century? We’ll discuss the need for creative problem solving skills, socialization, and the ability to work collaboratively this hour with Dr. Steven J. Hughes, President of the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology.”

East Dallas Community Schools attends the American Montessori International’s (AMI) 2012 Montessori Refresher Course, held February 17-20, 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Educators nationwide flock to the annual event, including 14 representatives from EDCS.

The event, entitled ‘Montessori: Engaging the Human Personality,’  addressed various topics concerning the importance of early childhood learning and development for over 900 participants including parents, administrators, teachers and policy makers.

“It has always been for teachers to go back and refresh themselves; but now, it’s for administrators, teaching assistants and parents too,” said Tom Loew, School Director for EDCS’ Lindsley Park campus.  “This was something new, and especially helpful for the teaching assistants; they were very enthusiastic and took a lot away from it.” …continue reading East Dallas Community Schools attends AMI’s 2012 Montessori Refresher Course
